The role of this record

This page belongs to the Electronic Artefacts portfolio and evidence system. It documents why Vestiges exists, what is publicly available, the principles guiding its design and the technical foundations under study. It does not replace the product and does not collect applications.

The entry point for artists, workshops, researchers, mediators, schools, institutions and territories is the official Vestiges website. Anyone wishing to discuss a practice, propose a contribution, test a bounded context or join the first conversations can present a project to Vestiges or write to contact@vestiges.world.

The current proposition

Vestiges designs digital dossiers with several levels of depth. A sensitive entry helps people see; a situated narrative helps them understand; sourced relations help them verify. The result is neither a standard portfolio, a marketplace nor an isolated encyclopaedic record.

A dossier can begin with a work, gesture, material, practice or transmission story. It aims to make the people, places, decisions, sources and relationships that give the subject meaning readable without claiming to inventory everything.

Three ways to enter

Artists and workshops

Vestiges is for people who want to document a practice beyond the final image: gestures, materials, decisions, workplaces, transmissions and works can recover their context. The first exchange is exploratory and commits nobody to publication.

Research and transmission

Researchers, mediators and teachers can propose a corpus, source, vocabulary, critique or bounded teaching use. Each contribution should remain attributed, while its status — fact, point of view, interpretation or open question — remains visible.

Institutions and territories

An institution, school, collection or territory can begin with a bounded context rather than a platform promise: name the use, limit the corpus, distribute responsibilities and define in advance the evidence that will support continuing, adjusting or stopping.

Method and control

Vestiges listens before publishing. The candidate process begins with a human exchange, limits collection, composes with the people concerned, preserves sources and organises review before any visibility decision. Permission applies to identified elements; it is never inferred from a general agreement.

A person should be able to correct, limit visibility or request withdrawal. Discussing a work does not automatically authorise publication of all its images, exact location, private files or provenance information. Commerce, data uses and future extensions remain separate from first contact.

Actual state and horizon

Today, Vestiges has a doctrine, identity, public landing page, demonstrative dossier, experience hypotheses and a contact infrastructure under validation. It is preparing its first conversations and bounded pilot contexts from Clermont-Ferrand and Auvergne, while allowing remote exchanges across France.

Vestiges does not yet present a real catalogue, guaranteed audience, marketplace, established community or industrialised public service. Professional workspaces, collaboration, 3D, specialist services or economic activation belong to a horizon to be tested; they are not described as currently available.

Electronic Artefacts foundations

Electronic Artefacts carries the project, documents its decisions and explores the relational foundations it may require: durable identities, explicit relations, provenance, contextual permissions, knowledge statuses and public projections. VASTE is a research program and possible technical foundation; that relationship is not evidence of a completed product.

Electronic Artefacts remains the reference surface for technical documentation, research links and project history. Vestiges remains the product surface for discovery, contextualisation and opening conversations with future participants.
